Embroidery - The Process

Embroidery is the process of decorating textiles, apparel, and accessories by stitching them with colored thread. The designs can range in complexity, style, and texturing.

At Integrity Advertising Works, we run a double head, 15 color machine, so complexity of colors in a design should never be an issue for us!

Embroidery - Artwork Requirements

EMBROIDERY – IMAGE FILE TYPES ACCEPTED (LISTED IN ORDER BY PREFERENCE – 300 DPI resolution needed):

1) PSD     2) AI     3) JPG     4) PDF     5) EPS     6) GIF

Please list the logo in size (Centimeter , Millimeter, or Inch), and number of colors needed for the image.
Please note: Hat and Beanie images can reach a max height of 2.15 inches.

EMBROIDERY – CLEAN IMAGES VS. SMALL ELEMENTS

Unlike screen printing with how tiny and specific the mesh can be, with embroidery the machine is only able to get so small. A needle and thread can only be so small. If your image is “distressed” or very detailed, or has very tiny elements in it, we suggest slight changes to be made to the image in order to make sure you have the highest quality image ready to be embroidered.
Questions to ask yourself while preparing the image: Do you need the "TM" for trademark? (Typically, they are incredibly small). If you do need it, please adjust the font to be larger in consideration of the thread and needle. The same goes for the small circled "c" for copyright.
If you have any text in the image, are the letters large enough to work well with embroidery?
If you have line work in the image, are the lines bold enough to work well with embroidery?
If alterations need to happen to the image, a graphics charge may need to be included if Integrity Advertising Works needs to do the alterations.

Please send files based on the spot to be stitched and the maximum image size listed below:
Style / Spot
Maximum Image Size
Front of Hat
4.75" W x 2.15″ H
Back of Hat (straight or curved)
3.25” W x 1” H
Beanie
4.75″ W x 2.15″ H
Adult Left Chest Image
3.5″ W x 3.5″ H
Center Chest Large
5″ W x 5″ H
Sleeves
2″ W x 2" H
Side Hat
2" W x 2.15" H
Center Chest Small
3" W x 3" H
Embroidery Sizing Standards:
Standard sizing of all hats and beanies are 120.65 mm x 54.61 mm (4.75"x2.15"). This is currently the max sizing we offer for hats and beanies. If any other size needs to be used on hats or beanies, specific numbers need to be given by the client in order for us to have it digitized in the proper sizing, otherwise we will always maximize the size of the image on the hat/beanie to fit the sizing mentioned above.  Therefore, if an exact measurement is not provided, it will result in a maxed out image.
Hat mock ups are very difficult to properly display when it comes to sizing. We try our best to make it look according to the size we estimate it to be, but final product may vary slightly in sizing compared to the reference image.
Again, if you want a very specific sizing, or a very small image embroidered, please provide exact sizing details, whether in inches or in millimeters, and we can digitize it to be that size.

ARTWORK SERVICES (EXTRA CHARGES):
In the event of low quality or incorrectly sized submitted art, alteration, cleaning and/or recreation of the image may be required for a properly printed product. Cleaning and/or alteration of images will result in a graphics charge of at least $10. For in depth alterations and/or recreation, price will be determined at time of image submission.
If the file is not print ready, we will notify you of any fees that need to be paid to make sure you get crisp, digitizable files for your amazing stitches! In the event that an invoice has been paid, but artwork is found to be in need of cleaning/alterations, a separate invoice will be sent including graphics charges unless Customer can provide corrected images as needed. Please be aware, if Customer uploads incorrectly sized/quality files, this may add time to the turnaround process.

The Embroidery Process

1) We receive a high resolution design from the Customer (Embroidery Artwork Requirements).
2) We send the design off to be digitized. What does that mean? Well, digitization is the process necessary to take a digital design and translate it in such a way that the embroidery machine is able to read each part of the design as separate colors, along with how many stitches it will need, as well as where to stitch, cut, and change colors, etc. This is the part of the process that we charge a digitization fee for, to get the correct DST file (the DST file is what the embroidery machine reads to stitch the image).
3) Once the design is properly digitized, we organize it correctly within our files to make it easy to locate for the embroidery team, and so that we have it on file in case a re-order is ever needed (if it is the same DST file, we won't need to charge again for a digitization fee).
4) The DST file is downloaded onto the embroidery machine.
5) The correct hoop stations are installed on the machine (whether it is for shirts, hats, etc., we have to make sure it is set up for the right sizing on the machine itself).
6) The correct threads are placed on the machine and threaded through all of its mechanics.
7) The correct needles are set up on the machine (needle size changes depending on the material being stitched, as well as the size of the image being stitched).
8) The image is test stitched in order to make sure the thread tension is correct.
9) Adjust anything as needed to make the image come out correctly (this might take another test stitching).
10) The items are hooped up using the correct backing for the job (the backing is different depending on the material being stitched).
11) After the items have been embroidered, there is a "clean up" process that we have to follow in order to make sure there aren't any loose strands sticking out of the top of the image, or we clean off any dissolvo topping if it was used for the order. This cleaning gives it a clean, sharp look. We also look on the back of the stitching, cut or tear away the backing (depending on the backing, some cut, and some tear away on purpose), and we either trim or burn loose threads on the back to give it a softer feel.
12) We then fold together and package up the order for our happy customers!

All you need to do is fill out a Custom Quote Request and we will guide you through the rest of the process.
